The Codex is a list of gods, goddesses, and extraplanar beings which serve as patrons. Many of the beings on the list have existed as patrons since antiquity, but others were thought to be unknown when the tome was discovered a generation ago.
For the most part, the beings listed in the Codex are not associated with each other, only tied in some way to Elsemorn. Because of this, believers and religious scholars tend not to view them as a true pantheon. The gods, goddesses, and beings are instead treated as a henotheism; they exist as individual patrons, though followers recognize that other beings do exist.
The scroll is a symbol for the Codex
The scroll (⎎) is gaining acceptance as a symbol for the Codex beings.
The Codex is open to characters of any alignment, although individual gods, goddesses, or beings may be more restrictive. Work with your Dungeon Master to determine appropriate alignments, symbols, and so on. These patrons are particularly appropriate for warlocks as well as clerics (Arcana, Death, Grave, and Knowledge domains), druids (circles of Dreams and Stars), and paladins (Oathbreakers).
The physical Codex was discovered in a hidden cavern library in Kisra. Between covers of ornate metalwork and gems are pages of all kinds: flattened papyrus scrolls, vellum, cloth, paper, and more. Each page includes knowledge or clues about a single god, goddess, or extraplanar being, with formulas and notes written in an encrypted phonetic Axhas. Glued inside the back cover are instructions for arranging the pages in a column and row format, and for rearranging them to fit certain criteria. It is unclear what purpose this serves.
The instructions and some of the deciphered text mention the name "Suul", but not who (or what) this person is. Theories range from the Codex's author or compiler, an earlier researcher, or simply a trickster. The Codex is sometimes called the Codex of Suul, the Calculations of Suul, or Suul's List.
The six columns appear as follows:
